My husband is a great teacher and he surprised me with his wisdom. I asked him to describe for me something a guy said to me on the bus yesterday. You see the guy may have been crazy, but he was talking about the Resurrection, saints and bones. The real point he was trying to make is that for us to be resurrected – we’ll have a new body – no worry where are bones are.
Let’s look at 1 Corinthians 15 – some of the points that got me thinking?
That Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures. Without this event – believing in him would be in vain. The important thing of Jesus life is that he was the Son of God and died for forgive our sins. Sins that we committed not him.
Paul goes on to talk about that in a little more detail: But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.
He says we should be pitied if this is not true. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. Our focus is to bring people to Christ so they no their is a life after this life and the promise is only made through Christ Jesus. We all will not sleep – some will be raised when Jesus returns that did not die. That only means – some of us will be going about our normal lives and he arrives and as Paul puts it….. in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
Why do we all disagree and get upset and hold to our principles regarding the end times. It is clear that we do not know everything about the return of Christ, but the Bible is clear that we will not know – he will be like a thief in the night. It is true that we will die and be buried like Christ. Paul says that to be absent from the body is to be home with the Lord – We
“Death has been swallowed up in victory.”[h]
55 “Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?”[i]
56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
So our thoughts should be only on serving God and giving our lives to his mission – making disciples so no one will perish. Amen.
