Colossians 3:18-25

The verses prior to this section tells us how to act – whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Another verse – Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.

So after prayerful consideration and discussing with my theologian (Dr. Merritt), I realize this passage is very easy to understand.  It isn’t about a wife summiting herself to cruel treatment or laying down to abuse.  It is about living in relationship like Christ would.  So means all parties of a relationship should be Christ like.  Paul used the relationship of marriage, children and working relationships because we understand those relationships.   We also understand how difficult those relationships can be.  God understands our nature and how we want to be in charge, it has been the problems since Adam and Eve.  The desire to be top dog…. God like, but because we are now in a restored relationship with Christ, we can be Christ like and focus on serving him first.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.  So treat your spouse, boss, and children like you are working for the Lord.  Raise your kids up showing them a Christ like relationship with your spouse and with everyone else.  If you can show them how to behave, it will help them to development good habits dealing with others.  Let your husband be the head of the household, but working all things for Christ.  Husband if they do the same will treat their wives with love and respect.

Treat others like Christ would and you cannot go wrong.  Pray that God teaches us to understand how to have Christ like relationships.
